Epic Games has officially released a new update for Fortnite on October 12, heralding the arrival of the highly anticipated Halloween event, Fortnitemares. This year’s festivities will feature a variety of new cosmetic items, exciting challenges, and unique weapons, running until the conclusion of Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4 on November 2.
Key Highlights of Fortnitemares 2024:
- Event Overview: Each October, Epic Games celebrates Halloween with the Fortnitemares event, and this year is no exception. Originally scheduled for October 15, the update was surprisingly moved up to October 11. However, a brief delay led to the official launch happening nearly 24 hours later. The event is now live across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC, and supported mobile devices.
- Iconic Disney Villains: Players can look forward to encountering several beloved Disney villains throughout the Fortnitemares event. Characters such as Maleficent, Captain Hook, and Cruella de Vil will be available for purchase in the in-game store.
- New Quests and Rewards: Participants can take on new challenges to earn exclusive Halloween-themed rewards. Completing all 11 new quests will unlock the coveted Great Scarecrow Glider.
New Weapons and Items:
- Boom Billy: This explosive mini-Billy the Puppet locks onto the nearest opponent and rolls towards them on a tricycle, detonating upon impact.
- Chainsaw: Players can wield this fearsome weapon to slice through enemies or rev it into the ground to propel themselves at high speeds.
- Unvaulted Items: Classic weapons such as the Wood Stake Shotgun, Pumpkin Launcher, and Witch Broom are making a comeback, enhancing the Halloween experience.
Returning Limited-Time Mode: Horde Rush
Horde Rush returns as a limited-time mode, challenging players to navigate the map and survive waves of Cube Monsters. After overcoming all hordes, players will face a final boss. The mode will be available until Fortnitemares concludes.

Players can earn special rewards by completing Fortnitemares XP Quests throughout the event, including:
- 1 Quest: The Fangler Bass
- 2 Quests: Carver’s Helm Emoticon
- 3 Quests: Horde’s War Wheel Back Bling
- 4 Quests: Thrills & Chills Loading Screen
- 5 Quests: Nightmare’s Choice Jam Track
- 6 Quests: Knight of the Patch Banner Icon
- 7 Quests: Jack-o’-Drifter Contrail
- 8 Quests: Fiendish Wand Pickaxe
- 9 Quests: Cauldron Chill Emote
- 10 Quests: Night of the Nitemares Loading Screen
- 11 Quests: The Great Scarecrow Glider
Eerie Outfits
Fortnitemares 2024 will also introduce a range of spooky outfits, including:
- Billy Outfit
- Sally and Pumpkin King
- Mephisto
- Edward Scissorhands
- Disney Villains: Outfits for Maleficent, Captain Hook, and Cruella de Vil
- She-Venom and Agony
- Leatherface
Additionally, a unique mashup outfit called Ravemello will be available as the event progresses.
Upcoming Tournament: Symbiote Cup
On October 22, players can participate in the Symbiote Cup, a Battle Royale Duos tournament. Top teams will earn the She-Venom and Agony outfits before they are released in the store on October 24. Players will have a three-hour window to complete up to ten matches, with a detailed scoring system in place.
Note: The Boom Billys, Pumpkin Launchers, and specific character fights will not be included in tournament play.
