Tequila Works, the studio known for developing games like Rime and Deadlight, has announced layoffs after canceling an unannounced project. According to a statement on LinkedIn, a “small number” of roles were affected by this decision, although no specific reasons for the cancellation were provided.
The studio expressed that it would now focus entirely on another unannounced game currently in development. This announcement comes after Tequila Works released Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story under Riot Forge last year, a title that was later shut down by Riot Games earlier this year.
In their LinkedIn post, Tequila Works acknowledged the difficulty of this situation, emphasizing their commitment to support and guide those impacted by the layoffs.
In 2022, Tencent acquired a majority stake in Tequila Works for an undisclosed amount, a move the Spanish studio aimed to leverage for scaling up and enhancing original game development.
